PRP for Thinning Hair
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has many applications in medicine due to the cell regeneration and growth factors that it provides to treated areas. PRP is used in sports injuries to revitalize healthy cells in areas of injury and even in Dentistry to help create healthy gum tissue. The benefits of PRP lie in the key growth factors that are delivered by PRP including; Platelet Derived growth Factor (PDGF), Transforming Growth factor (TGF), Vascular Endothelial Growth factor (VEGF) and bioactive proteins.
Recently, PRP has been introduced to help stimulate follicles by promoting healthy cell formation in order to treat thinning hair. The PRP is derived from one small tube of your own blood that is processed in our office and reintroduced to the scalp, all in one hour. This process will require approx 4-6 treatment and may take up to a year to show growth.
This simple procedure to promote hair growth works better in patients who are not heavy drinkers and who do not smoke. Growth appears to respond quicker in females than males and certain medical conditions that we will review in our office may also inhibit its success.
